Achieving a net zero world is a goal we have to meet. Net Zero is critical to our planet’s survival and could not be more urgent but it is also exciting! This huge transformation of the global economy will drive unprecedented levels of innovation and spur the growth of a range of clean industries, old and new.

The ETS Academy Mexico was held on July 23, 24 and 25, 2019 at Casa Lamm in Mexico City. It was a three-day seminar that brought together international experts with officials from different Federal Public Administration (APF) departments relevant to the development of an SCE, with the aim of learning the lessons learned and best practices of international jurisdictions, and facilitate the joint design of the SCE in Mexico.

Without mitigating actions, global temperatures are projected to rise by 4oC above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century—with increasing and irreversible risks of collapsing ice sheets, inundation of low-lying island states, extreme weather events, and runaway warming scenarios.

In the wake of the historic Paris Agreement, new partnerships are emerging around the world to keep the momentum on climate action going — including the Declaration on Carbon Pricing in the Americas. Neydi Cruz, Angela Churie Kallhauge, Dirk Forrister, and Nathaniel Keohane lay out the background to the Declaration and what the partners have achieved since its December 2017 signing.

The country's corporate titans have climate goals that are more ambitious than their government's, and see unified carbon pricing as key to combating global warming.

As we reflect on the work of 2017 and prepare for 2018, we thank the German government for their support for our upcoming work. With their funding, we will accelerate the implementation of the 2017-2018 work plan and scale up impact.
